From the Grow 2 Be Team …
We are finally able to share our literacy project we have been working on with everyone. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support during the last six months. We are thankful for the relationships we have built with our families and, moving forward, we would love to include contributions from our families in our newsletter – achievements, new fur baby additions; anything you may want to share.
Intentions and Aspirations …
Riley, Declan and Brayden are looking forward to start working on their learner’s licences. They are keen to get their learner’s books and start practicing the online test.
Nik wants to look further into learning about becoming a locksmith and doing a barista course.
Catherine wants to see some baby bunnies at ‘The Farm’.
We are looking into a few exciting new opportunities that we can’t wait to share.
“What I love most about Grow2Be are the people we meet and the fun places we go.”

Forever Friends Animal Rescue …
Forever Friends provides an essential lifeline for death-row animals in need. In addition, they provide medical and behavioural rehabilitation spaces for rescued animals who need extra time before being placed in foster homes.
Our Voice…
- Riley: At Forever Friends we get to look after some farm animals. It’s muddy out there and we need our gumboots.
- Brayden: We get to feed the animals and help move some hay bales around.
- Meiling: We help prepare food (eg. fruit, veggies and bread) and put them into buckets for the animals. We fill the hay feeders in pens & paddocks. We feed chooks, ducks, horses, ponies, goats, cows and pigs.
- Declan: I love petting the animals.

“I like all the interesting places we go to with Grow2Be.”

The Bluey & Alice Bunny Refuge …
This is an organisation that rehabilitates bunnies and then re-homes them to their fur-ever homes by way of adoption. We have had the privilege of volunteering at Bluey & Alice Bunny Refuge where we clean their cages, refill their litter trays and ensure they have water. We work like a well-oiled machine – the sooner we get the cages cleaned out, the sooner we can cuddle the bunnies. We are always greeted by Daisy and Bella who are two rescued maremma’s and Daphne, the cat.
Our Voice …
- Meiling: There are three sections of the refugee; the rescue bunnies, hospital wing and the holiday bunny hotel where they look after buns whose owners are on a holiday. Hannah has taught us a lot about the bunnies.
- Riley: We clean cages, feed & cuddle the buns.
- Brayden: We clean cages, cuddle bunnies and we met new friends Carolyn & Hannah – we call her Hannah Banana.
“I love that Grow2Be is so close to my house and that I can get there independently.”

Cooking & Recipes… Literacy & Numeracy
We have made quite a few delicious recipes, where participants have drawn up shopping lists relating to the recipes; they have gone shopping and bought the ingredients while keeping within a budget. Our participants have also participated in preparing the ingredients and cooking the dishes. We have made Nachos; burgers; Japanese rice paper rolls; mini pizzas; sausage rolls – to name but a few. During our Armchair Travel of Germany, we have prepared ‘Kartoffelpuffers’ – which are essentially potato pancakes.
Our Voice …
- Nik: I enjoyed making pasta and potato pancakes.
- Declan: I love learning new recipes.
- Brayden: I enjoyed making potato pancakes & burger patties.
- Riley: I love cooking sausage rolls.

‘The Farm’… Your home away from home …
‘The Farm’ offers a respite program from Thursday evening to Monday morning, as well as a day program that builds independent living skills. At ‘The Farm’, they empower choice and control, and we have been fortunate to run our programs collaboratively and in harmony with each other – focusing on the strengths and abilities of the participants, while incorporating their interests and goals within the programs.
